Active England Annual Report 2007

Active England is a £108.5 million programme jointly funded by Sport England and the Big Lottery Fund (formerly the New Opportunities Fund). It aims to increase community participation in sport and physical activity across nine regions in England.

More specifically, its aims are:

-Create sustainable, innovative multi-activity environments for sport;

-Increase participation in sport and physical activity among all the sections of society but particularly those that are under-represented in sport and physical activity participation; and

-Ensure new ways of working are spread to and adopted by the sports sector and key partners.

Active England has funded 245 projects since 2004.

Sport England and the Big Lottery Fund commissioned Hall Aitken and Bearhunt to evaluate the Active England programme and work alongside the programme from 2004 through to 2008.  Hall Aitken and Bearhunt bring an expertise in evaluation, sports and physical activity.

Hall Aitken have recently published the annual progress report regarding the impact of the Active England programme.

The report highlights the projects impact on participation, provides evidence of good practice and starts to investigate key drivers that are found in exemplar projects. This report will be updated over the next 12 months to highlight the progress the programme is currently making.
