How should sport be represented? Generally, the spatial vision should consider how sport will contribute to the delivery of improvements to quality of life in the district. Sport England’s aspirations for spatial planning are set out here. This could include Sport England’s local delivery proposals (set out in Regional Plans for Sport) and local Sport and Recreation Strategies.
Overarching policies for sport should be included (such as the protection of playing fields and the provision of community infrastructure) with cross-referencing to more detailed policies, where appropriate, set out in DPDs and SPDs. The core strategy should reflect objectives for sport contained within the Community Strategy for an area, and reflect the views of partners on the LSP (some ideas for broader-based policy development, by topic area, in respect of the interests of sport and active recreation are set out here). Major proposals for development or for conservation which affect sports interests will need to be highlighted and these cross-referenced with the Proposals Map.
