Listed below are some examples of core strategies which include sport and recreation.
Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, Local Development Framework Core Strategy: Preferred Options (December 2005) Policy CS-C4: Development policies where appropriate will be required to provide planning obligations which will relate to the provision of new and/or improvements to existing sport, recreation and other facilities.
Gloucester City Council, Local Development Framework – Core Strategy, Preferred Options Consultation Paper (January 2006) Core Policy 14, Sport and Recreation: There will be a general presumption in favour of new sports and recreation facilities in accessible locations that are well served by a choice of means of transport. We will seek to safeguard existing sports and recreational facilities from redevelopment to other uses unless it can be demonstrated that there is no longer a demand or prospect of demand for the recreational use of the site and a deficiency would not be created through its loss, or suitable replacement provision is made elsewhere in an accessible location.
Poole Borough Council, Core Strategy: Preferred Option, Policy 25 (April 2006) New residential development should be supported by adequate open space and recreation facilities in terms of quantity, quality and accessibility. Planning obligations should be used to ensure that the cumulative needs arising from the occupation of small scale new development should be met.
Borough of Redbridge, Core Strategy: Preferred Options, Strategic Policy 7 – Culture and Recreation (January 2007) The cultural life of the Borough will be enhanced for residents and visitors by:
- protecting open space including allotments
- ensuring that open space and related facilities are provided, where appropriate, in new developments
- developing quality accessible open space along the River Roding
- safeguarding the existing viable culture, leisure and recreational and sporting facilities and supporting proposals for new and improved facilities
Horsham District Council, Core Strategy Policy CP13 (February 2007) The release of land for development will be depending on there being sufficient capacity in the existing local infrastructure to meet the additional requirement arising from new development or suitable arrangement having been put in place to the improvement of the infrastructure, services and community facilities made necessary by the development….. Arrangements for the provision or improvement, including access to the facilities to the required standard will be secured by planning obligations. (also Policy C3 Improving the Quality of New Development)
Redditch Borough, Core Strategy Policy CS.6 (May 2006) The design and provisions of new development will be expected to help achieve the sustainability objectives of this Local Plan. Where appropriate, developers will be required to make provision for related environmental works, infrastructure and community facilities and services. Developers will be required to finance the full cost of all such provision which is fairly and reasonably related in scale and kind to the proposed development and its impact on the local environment. These provisions will be the subject of planning obligations in accordance with the relevant legislation which will be secured prior to the issue of planning permission and will include:
- those within the development site that are necessary in the interests of comprehensive planning and sustainable development;
- and, those off-site that are necessary in order to serve the development
- or mitigate its impact.
