Coddenham Parish Council
A social and sports centre that caters for everything from football and racquet sports to line dancing and yoga has united the community of Coddenham.

More than 43 sports are catered for at the East Anglian Sports Park which can adapt to accommodate any size of sporting event.

The upgrading of facilities at the Fakenham Sports Centre is helping Sport England achieve its target of increasing participation in sport by 1% a year over the next 15 years.

A new sports rebound wall on an all-weather surface means children at a primary school in Wisbech can practise a range of ball skills even when it’s too wet to use their grass playing field.

Clowne Skate Park, Derbyshire
Youngsters practising street sports like skate boarding and BMX riding were causing a problem at Clowne in Derbyshire – until a £80,362 lottery award from Sport England helped put them on the right track.

Kilmarsh Parish Council
Sport doesn’t have to be strenuous to help you keep fit – that’s the message from the Kilmarsh Parish Council where a walking club and a ‘fit4fun’ activity session for Over 50s are popular features of their sports centre programme.

Manor Sports College (Multi Sports Hub*)
The Manor Sports College in Nottinghamshire has been a big hit with disabled sportsmen and women since the extended facility opened in April 2002.

Wellingborough Old Grammarians Association (Multi Sports Hub*)
The 2000 members of Wellingborough Old Grammarians Association’s 71-year-old multi-sports club enjoy some of the best facilties around after £1m was spent on an upgrade.

Bellingham Centre
A gymnastics club which uses the revamped Bellingham Centre in South Lewisham was voted London’s best after taking advantage of the smart new facilities it offers.

Flanders Road Playing Field, Newham
Four new football pitches and two cricket wickets have been provided at the Flanders Road Playing Field in the London borough of Newham, along with a new irrigation system and fencing improvements. The playing fields are based in one of the most deprived wards in the country.

East Ham Leisure Centre
Over £15m of Lottery funding helped turn the derelict public swimming baths in the London borough of Newham into a flagship leisure facility.

A large strip of derelict land under the A40 in west London was transformed into a multi-sport hub that gave affordable, high quality and accessible facilities for local people to get involved in sport without travelling great distances.

Benfield Community Sports Complex
The gymnastics centre at the improved Benfield Community Sports Complex in Northumbria has been rated one of the best in Europe because of its sunken tumble tracks.

Chillington Road Primary School, Newcastle Upon Tyne
A primary school in Newcastle Upon Tyne is proof that sport and the arts can thrive side-by-side, thanks to an imaginative design. This had to overcome considerable site restraints in order to produce a good balance of high quality facilities at this inner city school. A new hall built between two Victorian buildings at the Chillingham Road Primary School has been constructed with a curved wall at one end allowing an attractive space for performance while still meeting the design requirements for organised sport.

School pupils and the whole of the local community are benefiting from Sport England’s grant of £2.1m Lottery funding towards new sporting facilities at the Marden Bridge Middle School.

A new state-of-the-art skate park has the potential to become a national BMX and skateboarding centre. The Victoria Park skate park features a series of concrete bowls, ramps, rails, floodlighting, a music system, a chill-out zone and a supervision hut.

New facilities at the East Grinstead Sports Club have allowed the organisation to build on its success and encourage more people to get active in the community.

Pavilions in the Park, Horsham
Two run-down facilities have been transformed into a superb new leisure centre in Horsham that is both a pay-and-play facility for the local community and a focus for local sports clubs.

Woodlands School, Kent
A gospel choir was started as a result of the development of facilities for music, drama and sport at Woodlands Primary School at Medway in Kent. The choir is just one of many community groups which has taken advantage of investment in primary school sport and arts facilities through the Space for Sport and Arts programme.

Devizes Sports Club
A project that has brought several traditional English sports together is proving a big hit in Wiltshire.

Central Park, Plymouth
The city's largest recreational area has been given a makeover to help it meet the needs of increasingly popular lifestyle supports. New facilities include an all-weather baseball or softball diamond and an outdoor arena for skateboarders, BMX fans and in-line skaters.

Charles Dickens Junior School
Portsmouth’s Charles Dickens Junior School’s long wait for modern sport and arts facilities had a happy storybook ending after it was awarded funding from the Space for Sport and Arts programme.

Kilkhampton Junior and Infant School
Having no school hall severely limited the PE, drama and arts activities at the village junior and infant school at Kilkhampton in North Cornwall. These deficiencies were highlighted in an Ofsted report. But that’s all in the past since the school, which is situated in the top 25%  of deprived wards nationally, was provided with a new multi-use hall courtesy of a £595,000 grant from the Space for Sport and Arts programme.

Severn Centre (Multi Sports Hub*)
A skate park, creche, ICT suite – and even a police station –  all share the unique multi-sport Severn Centre, which became the first Active England project to become fully operational when it was opened at Highley in the West Midlands in September 2004.

The Grove Schools, Wolverhampton
A separate infant and a junior school now operate as one thanks to a grant through the Space for Sport and Arts programme. The two schools were physically linked under the project which provided a common entrance and a new two-court sports hall and changing rooms that the schools share.

Bracken Edge Primary School, Leeds
A new arts facility and a new sprung floor for the existing gym have been provided at the Bracken Edge Primary School in Leeds under the Space for Sport and the Arts programme.

Dearne Valley Leisure Centre
Five million pounds of Lottery funding invested by Sport England turned a run-down swimming pool into a state of the art sports facilitiy at Dearne Valley in Doncaster.

Harrogate Granby High
Harrogate Hockey Club has seen a 50% cent rise in its membership since Sport England invested over £750,000 of Lottery funds in new facilities at Harrogate Granby School where the club is based.

Summerhill Visitor Centre
Mountaineering  and orienteering were among eight sports given a new focus in the Hartlepool area when the Summerhill Visitor Centre opened on a 100-acre site in July 2003.

* The multi-sport hub concept has proven to be one of the most effective means to bring sport and physical activity directly into communities. This new approach focuses on the development of community hubs that combine multiple sports and activities and also have the potential to bring health, social welfare and educational services together under one roof. Sport England has committed to developing a network of multi-sport hubs across the country to boost the number of people actively engaged in sport.
