Steps Approach to Infrastructure Planning

Planning and developer contributions for sport will increasingly form part of systematic authority-wide infrastructure planning.  This covers a range of community provisions and is designed to support the LDF for the area.

Infrastructure planning is central to the strategic delivery and corporate focus of local authorities and their partners through the LSP.  Creating safe, strong and prosperous communities (CLG July 2008), and the revisions to PPS 12 on local spatial planning, set out this framework.

The advisory document A steps approach to infrastructure planning and delivery (PAS June 2009) describes a way in which local authorities and LSPs can work together to achieve the right level of infrastructure delivery.

The advice:

  • Sets out a seven step process for infrastructure planning and delivery;

  • Gives further detail on what is involved for each step under headings such as what is involved/outcome/ways to get started etc;

  • Gives references to examples of infrastructure planning already underway at local level; and

  • Lists other resources and guidance, such as presentation material for councillors.
