How would you like to see Holme Pierrepont develop in the future?
Holme Pierrepont, the National Water Sports Centre, is currently owned by Nottinghamshire County Council and leased to Sport England.
Structural changes in performance sport and Holme Pierrepont’s current patterns of usage has made it necessary for Sport England to work with local stakeholders to develop a new operating model for the site after the current management contract ends in 2009.
Consultants have been appointed by Sport England and Nottinghamshire County Council to look at options for the future of the Centre, and a consultation process is taking place on the possible options.
The possible options are:
- An extreme sports centre
- A health and education centre
- An environmental and ecological centre
- A commercial marina and waterside development
- A sports village
Councillor Chris Baron, Nottinghamshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Culture, explains:
“We need to look for a viable long term future for Holme Pierrepont, and the brief to the consultants was to look to secure this whilst providing maximum benefit to the community at the minimum burden to the local taxpayer.”
Anne Rippon, Interim Regional Director for Sport England East Midlands said:
"We are working with the county council and see great opportunities for increasing participation in sport and active recreation through the options proposed for future development of Holme Pierrepont.
Further information on the consultation, including online voting for your preferred option, can by found on the Nottinghamshire County Council web site.
