World cycling champion backs the bid

World Cycling Champion Rob Hayles is the latest sportsperson to 'Back The Bid' by signing the City of Leicester's flag supporting London 2012.

Rob is a double world cycling champion after winning gold in the Team Pursuit and Madison events at the 2005 UCI World Track Championships in Los Angeles. Rob also won silver (Team Pursuit) and bronze (Madison) at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

Rob was joined for the signing by Phil Lord and Alistair Reid sporting Lymphoma Association' T-shirts and raising funds for a charity ride to Paris this Summer. Phil was recently diagnosed with Follicular Lymphoma. Alistair is Director of Highways and Transportation at Leicester City Council.

Rob was in Leicester for the launch of British Cycling's 'Go Ride' Olympic training film featuring all of the Athens Games cycling medallists. The film was made by Leicester film-makers Thin-king Media as part of their contribution to the annual Ride Leicester Bike Film Festival.

Festival Co-ordinator Andy Salkeld said; "Rob & Alistair were both happy to sign the 'Back the Bid' flag and it was a great boost for this year's festival to bring together the World Champion and local charity riders to backing the Olympic bid".
