Fifteen months ago sending a team was just a dream, but it has now become a reality. Team GB Ice Hockey was founded in 2005 by the British Universities Ice Hockey Association as a national representative team for British students (aged 17-28) currently enrolled on a full-time university degree course.
It's the first time ever Team GB; who’s delegation is administered by the British Universities Sports Association, have entered the ice hockey tournament
National Ice Centre Coaches Matt Bradbury and Mike Urquhart have been appointed Head Coach and Assistant Coach respectively. Team Manager, Simon Hopkins, is based at the University of Nottingham’s Department of Physical Recreation and Sport.
Matt Bradbury said
"Obviously we are very proud to be representing our nation, Nottingham and the National Ice Centre at such an event. The ice hockey is one of the major competitions and one of the highlights of the Games. It is going to be one of the proudest moments of my hockey career".
The team will be pitting their wits against the Czech Republic, Finland, host nation Italy, Japan and Kazakhstan. The other half of the draw consists of Canada, Russia, USA, Slovakia and Korea.
