Derby City Council had cause for a double celebration after four leisure centres were presented with Quest awards, all with scores over 70%. Plus the City Council and Derby Athletic Club won the UK Athletics regional sports partnership of the year award.

Quest is a quality initiative for the sport and leisure industry, developed by Sport England to raise managerial standards and improve customer service.
The City Council's four sport centres initially gained accreditation in 2000-2001 and have been reassessed at two yearly intervals since then. In most cases the centres have shown a continuous improvement in their assessment score. The centres are:
- Moorways Sports Complex
- Springwood Leisure Centre
- Queens Leisure Centre
- Shaftesbury Sports Centre
In 2006 during their fourth assessment the centres all scored over 70%.
Also in 2006 Derby City Council and Derby Athletic Club won the U.K. Athletics Regional Sports Partnership of the Year Award.
The club, which has been based at Moorways Stadium since 1982, has a highly effective and pro-active working partnership with the City Council. Each year the club receive grant aid from the City Council and in return provide athletics for schools and the local community.
Initiatives include:
- Club coaches are in primary schools in the city and provide workshops and advice for teachers to run their own events.
- They put on cross country and league relay championships for secondary schools.
- The club co-operate with the management at Moorways Sports Centre including helping run the extremely successful sports hall athletics programme.
- Organising and hosting numerous athletics events and competitions at Moorways
The City Council and club were awarded a trophy which Derby AC display in their trophy cabinet and £500 which was donated to the club who have since purchased equipment for the sports hall athletics programme.
