72 East Midlands athletes to compete at the Beijing Games
The British Olympic and Paralympic Associations have announced that 72 members* of the Team GB squads were either born, currently live or train/play in the region. Also a special mention to Laura Jones of Nottingham who was selected in the Olympic gymnastics squad but had to withdraw due to injury.

East Midlands Olympians Forty nine athletes will be competing at the Olympic Games across nine different sports, including badminton player Nathan Robertson. This represents 16% of Team GB's squad for the Olympic Games.

Loughborough University at the Beijing Olympics 55 Loughborough students past and present and University-based athletes have been named in national teams for this summer’s Olympic and Paralympic Games in Beijing, including athlete Lisa Dobriskey.
