The East Midlands region at the Olympics and Paralympics  

From the region there were 46 Olympians and 22 Paralympians going for gold and striving to achieve personal bests. Other Athens 2004 key facts include:

  • 15% of the GB Olympic team are from or based in the East Midlands
  • 13% of the GB Paralympic team are from or based in the East Midlands
  • 78% of the canoeing team are based in Nottingham
  • 36% of the badminton team are based in region
  • 25% of the swimming team are based in region
  • 8 of the 30 medals won by the GB Olympic team were won by or contributed to by athletes from or based in the region
  • 13 of the 95 medals won the GB Paralympic team were won by or contributed to by athletes from or based in the region
