Government thinking increasingly reflects the principles of devolving power to the local level backed with the identification of locally determined priorities. Sport now has data, information and evidence that can support the description of the ‘story of the place’. Sport England also has a duty to co-operate with partners producing the Sustainable Community Strategy and their Local Area Agreement.  This is one of a series of briefings which will cover all Unitary and County Council local authority areas in the region. The intention is to provide a snapshot of the available data and evidence and confirm where further details can be found. This material will be useful to those developing local policy and to the sports sector as it faces the challenge of illustrating the important contribution it makes to communities.
