Outcome 8  

A more efficient and effective sport system within the East Midlands

The East Midlands Regional Sports Board identified the importance of building an effective delivery system to take forward the development of sport across the region. The Outcome 8 action plan was prepared during the year to provide a focus for this work for all partners of the Regional Sports Partnership.

Regional Sports Board
•The Board’s philosophy continues to be strategic with members exerting influence in key areas.

•New members appointed were
   Duncan Sharkey, Chief Executive of West Lindsey District Council
   Bryan Carr, board member of Emda
   Adirupa Sengupta, Regional Director of Common Purpose
   Ted Cantle, the Government’s Community Cohesion advisor
    Peter Richardson, Chief Executive of Derbyshire Building Society
   Tony Hams, Chair of the Peak District National Park

•Len Jackson, the Board’s Chair gave a key note presentation on the Regional Plan for Sport to a Danish regional sport and regeneration conference, as they were impressed with the plan and the approaches advocated in it.

Regional Sports Partnership
•Equity reference group formed.

•Sub Groups set up for Leadership, Equity, Performance and Workforce development.

•The Partnership, along with Sport England staff, attended courses at the Leadership Trust to develop their leadership skills and knowledge and network with fellow partnership members.  The region led the organisation’s thinking on the importance of leadership.

County Sports Partnerships
•The Department for Culture, Media and Sport announced that Derbyshire Sport, Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport, Lincolnshire Sports Partnership and Northamptonshire Sport were fit for purpose.

•Sport Nottinghamshire, the new Sports Partnership for the County, established an interim board and appoint Simon Starr as its Director.

•David Joy is appointed Chief Executive of Derbyshire Sport. A major partnership strategy launch day is hosted by the partnership.

•Northamptonshire Sport's QUEST accreditation was reconfirmed with the highest score ever recorded for sports development.

•Leicester-Shire & Rutland and Northamptonshire CSP's achieved the preliminary level for the Child Protection Standard.

•Leicester-Shire & Rutland launched a 4 year strategy and business plan.

•Lincolnshire awarded £100,000 Regional Change Up funding for their voluntary sector project.

•Lincolnshire and Leicester-Shire complete validated TAES self-assessments.

•Advocacy work in Lincolnshire with Local Authority Chief Executives’ group results in re launch of chief cultural/sport officers group.

•County Sports Partnerships and Sport England East Midlands attend a ground breaking event in Grantham, bringing the core teams together for the first time.

Community Sports Networks
•Project launched in Derbyshire to map out existing local development and networks.

•Leicester-Shire & Rutland has agreed a plan for its sub-structure of 9 local sports alliances to be established. Charnwood is seen as an example of good practice with involvement from key agencies.

•Lincolnshire consultation event agrees a structure with South Holland and East Lindsey to be the first CSN's in the county.

•Corby CRISP is successful in it's progression of PESSCL and CSN national pilots. Kettering and Wellingborough also advancing in Northamptonshire.

•In Nottinghamshire the Gedling Local Sports Forum has it’s delivery plan agreed and hosts a major launch event. The Forum is referred to as good practice in a national study.

Workforce Development
•£10,000 funding obtained from Learning and Skills Council to produce a regional workforce development plan.

•Induction carried out for new regional Skills Active Manager (workforce development).

•Successful skills active regional workshop held to input to regional and county workforce development plans.

Communications
•Sport England, along with emda, were sponsors and partners of the BBC East Midlands sports awards held at the De Montfort Hall in Leicester. Significant media coverage and positive partner feedback was received from the event.

•The Sports Awards were also the catalyst for the ongoing strong relationship with BBC East Midlands Today.

•A regional communication group established and leads to CSP staff being media trained. Event held in Leicester-Shire and Rutland CSP to develop effective communications strategy.
