Reduced inequality through increased participation in sport and active recreation by under represented groups and communities

East Midlands Junior Boccia squad An important component of the Regional Sports Partnership is the equity organisations. Sport England has worked closely with them in support of their capacity building throughout the region’s counties.

Key highlights

•Sport England East Midlands achieves the preliminary standard of the Racial Equality Framework for Sport.

•The document Women in the Business of Sport is produced to capture the significant role women play in sport and is launched at the Women’s Sports Foundation conference in Nottingham.

•The Regional Equity Reference Group formed as a sub group of the Regional Sports Partnership and commissioned research into the equality infrastructure in the East Midlands

•County Sports Partnerships commence working towards the equity standard.

•Notts County Football Club, with support from VOICE East Midlands, becomes the first Football League club to receive an award which recognises work with issues such as racism and equal opportunities.

Changed 4 Sport

The East Midlands Region entered a Junior Squad in the Disability Sport England National Boccia Championships for the first time.

The squad’s highlights included Michael Whaler winning in the BC4 competition, Chris McCance runner-up in the BC8 competition and Joseph Smith qualifying for the semi-final play-off.

The full squad was Beth Foster (Derbyshire), Joseph Smith and Michael Whaler (Lincolnshire), Chris McCance (Northamptonshire), Clare Crawford and Charlotte Knighton (Nottinghamshire).
