Marking Handover and the London 2012 Education Programme
School and college celebrations across the South West marked Paralympic Handover and heralded the start of the London 2012 Education Programme. An estimated 5,000 schools and colleges across the UK took up London 2012’s invitation to lead the celebrations and welcome the Paralympic Games home, on the day London Mayor Boris Johnson received the Paralympic Flag during the Closing Ceremony of the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games. In the South West alone, 273 schools and colleges officially registered to be part of the Paralympic Handover with many more also taking part in activities. Take a look at some of the highlights of celebrations in the region and find out about the online resources available through the London 2012 domestic education programme called ‘Get Set’ which went live on 18 September 2008. Young Ambassador Conference
Tuesday 7 October 2008 (9.30pm to 4pm) - Exeter Chiefs Rugby Club
Youth Sport Trust's Young Ambassador programme, now in its third year, is the first initiative granted the Inspire Mark for education by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG). It forms an important part of the PE and sport strand of Get Set – the official London 2012 education programme. In the run up to 2012, more than 5,500 14-19 year olds will be working as role models in schools and local communities. Each Young Ambassador will help build on the excitement created by the 2012 Games by championing the Olympic and Paralympic values, sport, PE and a healthy lifestyle to other youngsters. Youth Sport Trust have written to all Partnership Development Managers and emailed information on how to select their Young Ambassadors and register for the Conferences.  Download letter. On-line registration is open for the Exeter roadshow event. Every partnership has the opportunity to bring two Young Ambassadors to one of the conferences. More information.
