Sources of funding

Sport England South West recognise that the funding for sport and recreation is a major issue, and that at times it can be very complicated. This resource and Grant News section accessible from the left menu should assist groups and individuals in identifying various sources of funding in the local community, but is not exhaustive. We would welcome any information which could bepublished here. Information can be forwarded to us by clicking here.

The Big Lottery Fund has launched a multi-million pound fund to promote the well-being and personal development of young people across England. The Fund is now open for applications and projects should be for young people aged 11-18. If you want to apply to the BLF for grants to individual young people, voluntary and community organisations for local projects or voluntary and community organisations for national projects click here. If you wish to apply for grants for 'organisations' click here.

When trying to find potential partners for your project, it may worth considering a few issues. For example, are there any other organisations in your area attempting similar developments that could be partners? Or, are there any organisations in your area working with groups you want to target? Could they be partners? Finally, some governing bodies have their own grant schemes and it is advisable to check whether they offer grant aid or they know of other funding sources for your sport. Check closing deadlines and eligibility criteria for all the funding streams before you apply. Information on other funding streams can be found here.
