Coach-ability is London Sports Forum for Disabled People’s exciting coach training programme. It supports disabled Londoners to become high quality sports coaches to work at all levels across the capital.
A recent change in criteria means that the project is now able to offer places to applicants from all educational backgrounds. Previously the criteria had dictated an NVQ level 1 / GCSE or less. The decision to change the criteria will enable disabled groups to access the project and increase the number of potential candidates eligible for the programme. This will enable the programme to achieve its end target of supporting 150 disabled Londoners to become coaches.
Selected Coach-ability trainees will work towards becoming a level 2 coach from a range of sports. Each will receive a personalised support package, including a trained mentor, development training opportunities and support in identifying coaching experiences to expand skills.
Funded by the London Development Agency and delivered by London Sports Forum for Disabled People as part of ‘Inclusive and Active’ – a sport and Physical Activity Action Plan for Disabled People in London Coach-ability works across all 33 London boroughs and is currently looking to recruit both disabled Londoners who want to become coaches and Londoners who want to be support mentors to work alongside the coaches.
