Frequently asked questions

The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will deliver a sustainable legacy for London and the UK. A number of sporting facilities will be developed and used on the Olympic Park and form part of the commitment to make the Games truly sustainable and as such will be designed and constructed with a view to them being ‘reusable venues’.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Olympic Delivery Authority have asked Sport England to coordinate the assessment of potential market interest and ultimately identify potential locations for reusable venues.

Please look through this prospectus and make sure you access the frequently asked questions. From this web page you will be able to complete an ‘Expression of Interest’ form and ask questions. At this very early stage we are not seeking commitments but rather finding out who may be interested in what aspects of the reusable venues.

Please take the time to look at the web page and feel free to ask any questions (please use the expression of interest form and return to legacyvenues@sportengland.org).

Thank you for your time.

Why are we seeking to reuse some of the Olympic venues?

As was set out in the London 2012 Candidate File, the London Games is using existing venues wherever possible and temporary buildings wherever appropriate, which could be relocated around the UK.

The vision is to deliver all the venues on time, within agreed budget and to specification, minimising the call on public funds and providing for a lasting community sports legacy.

Temporary seating/building graphLondon 2012 is making far greater use of temporary venues than previous host cities.

This is to maximise legacy potential, maximise distribution possibilities throughout the UK and to promote sustainability through reuse and recycling.

No other Olympic Games has previously sought to deploy so many temporary venues and of such size.
