All change at Wellingborough
The 2000 members of Wellingborough Old Grammarians Association’s 71-year-old multi-sports club enjoy some of the best facilties around after £1m was spent on an upgrade.
The main clubhouse at the progressive club’s 46-acre site was improved, providing new changing rooms for eight teams and match officials as well as treatment and social areas.
A new cricket pavilion was also built for the Association which has strong strategic links with Wellingborough District Council and the Hindu Society Indian Cricket Club.
Sport England invested over £300,000 of Lottery funding in the project after agreeing a strategy to help more members of the community gain access to the facilities and clubs.
It has certainly proved successful and the community now use the facilities for rugby, cricket, football, bowls, tennis, table tennis, athletics, rounders and ladies hockey.

"The multi-sport hub concept has proven to be one of the most effective means to bring sport and physical activity directly into communities. This new approach focuses on the development of community hubs that combine multiple sports and activities and also have the potential to bring health, social welfare and educational services together under one roof. Sport England has committed to developing a network of multi-sport hubs across the country to boost the number of people actively engaged in sport."
