Club upgrade brings coaching boost
A massive increase in the number of hours of junior and adult coaching carried out each week is just one of the results of Sport England’s investment in the upgrading of Ledbury Rugby Club’s facilities on the West Midlands.
Coaching for Under 18s has soared to 23 hours a week – an increase of 92 per cent – while adult coaching has risen from 8 to 16 hours a week.
Sport England contributed over £300,000 of Lottery money into developing the rugby club's facilities to provide a focal point for outdoor sport in the local community.
Pitches need improving and additional facilities were required to allow local clubs and groups to use the site.
The injection of cash helped Sport England provide a multi purpose clubhouse extension, community changing facilities, car parking, drainage and improvements to playing fields and floodlights.
After the new and expanded facilities were opened in November 1999, the facility became home to four newly-formed clubs covering netball, athletics, cricket and junior rugby.
Now Ledbury Rugby Club provides a multi sport environment giving opportunities to the community and young people to benefit from coaching and organised competitions at the clubs.
