Sport England, in partnership with Milton Keynes council and English Partnerships, has set up a joint pilot project to help the council ensure provision for open space, sport and recreation keeps pace with the significant growth planned for Milton Keynes.
The project focuses on two aspects:
Whilst focusing on existing allocations it is hoped that the project will also provide the framework and guidelines for the provision of such facilities within the wider growth planned for the area, as set out in the Sustainable Communities Plan and the Milton Keynes/South Midlands Study/Strategy.
The specific aims of the project, currently being carried out by Oxford Brookes University, are to:
An audit of the current position has been completed, and a draft SPG on open space and sport and recreation is currently being produced. The draft will be out for consultation in the autumn.
Adoption of the SPG by Milton Keynes Council is planned for late December 2004.
Latest News
Comments on the draft SPG document were reported to the Cabinet at it's meeting on the 18th January 2005. The Cabinet resolved to adopt the document as Supplementary Planning Guidance, and make changes to the document reflecting comments received. A revised copy of the SPG will be placed on MKBC's website shortly.
