Julians Role:

As regional NGB forum development officer Julian Pagliaro’s role is to help:

Assisting the role out of integrated sports specific development plans across the region.

About Julian:

I originally graduated from University as a Secondary Physical Education Specialist and taught in schools for 8 years. Since then I spent 9 years working in community sport. Initially this involved managing a facility that received a Sport England Service to Sport Award. I then moved into sports development, finally becoming a Sports Consultant in April 2002. I set up my own company, Transition UK Ltd, in 2003.

Whilst employed in Sports Development I spent 4½ years working in two different regions and was, principally, English Hockey’s Regional Development Manager in the East Midlands. My main responsibilities included facility development and rolling out national programmes in association with Local Authorities, Schools and Volunteers. From this work I was invited to facilitate Workshops within Derbyshire, at an East Midlands NASD Training Day and at two National SDO Seminars. These were about setting up Partnership Development Groups as well as improving understanding between Sports and Local Authorities.

In addition to my professional background I have over 12 years experience as a volunteer in hockey. This has been as a captain, coach, administrator and chair of a county association. I have also been chair of a hockey development group that successfully bid for Active Sports funding. As a result of this I have empathy and confidence when dealing with volunteers in a variety of contexts.

I am excited about my opportunity to support the NGB Forum in the East Midlands. Sports specific development has always been at the heart of what I do and I have ambition for what this group can achieve. I know that an early task will be to help the Forum’s members feel supported over the delivery of their priorities. It is also important to develop strong links with external partners, especially the five County Sports Partnerships. It is only when some common understandings are achieved that the full potential of the Forum can be realised.
