In 1986, when Jevon Payne was coaching football as an 18-year-old in Leicester, the thought of running his own business was just a dream.
However, it became reality in 1999 when he formed In2Sports. The company now employs 14 people providing coaching throughout Leicestershire – and in some instances career opportunities for the young people they have originally worked with.
“We began by providing coaching in primary schools but have now expanded to include young people in secondary education,” explained Jevon.
“Those we work with come from all backgrounds and our aim is to improve not just their sporting skills but also their confidence and self-esteem.
“For example, one young person came to us with very little confidence, has gone through the programme and now has a job".
Jevon puts his success down to a number of factors, including the experience and skills he and a number of friends gained whilst developing the Greenhill All Sports Project (GRASP) for young people in association with the North West Leicestershire sports development team and the local youth club.
GRASP was set up by local youngsters who wanted to provide sports facilities and opportunities in Greenhill, a disadvantaged community, then suffering high unemployment and low skills, who were actively encouraged to do it themselves.
Jevon hopes to grow his company “There is an increasing demand for specialist coaches, and our key objective is to give people the opportunity to make a career as a coach.
“We currently only offer coaching programmes in Leicestershire but are looking to expand, whilst as a company it is rewarding for us that we have been able to offer career opportunities to some of the young people we have previously coached".
