London 2012 and Sport England hit the beach
On Thursday morning the Sport England roadshow crew woke up to the sound of waves crashing on the beach and the most amazing views of the Cornish coastline all from our hotel in Newquay. Why Newquay? Because that's where the roadshow was last week.
With Sport England providing masses of sporting taster sessions and demonstrations throughout the two day extravaganza, Newquay was the perfect place to park up and get people involved in new snazzy sports.
By being part of the Newquay surf festival we were able galvanise the masses to get involved in free surf school sessions, mountain boarding around the coastal hills and coastreering along the Cornish coast. That is to name but a few sports on offer. Rowing and gymnastics were as popular as ever and we even had body pump for those wanting a hard workout in the midday sun.
This roadshow has really raised the bar and goes down as one of the best so far. The key to success was not just the glorious weather and scenery, but the shear number of different sports available for people to try. Getting people to try out new sports or sports they haven't tried since school invigorates the crowds and gets people excited. Getting people to join in is exactly why we have the Olympics and Paralympics coming to England. I can only imagine this excitement and enthusiasm will grow as we get closer to the Games.
