Our internship programme is an excellent opportunity for students to gain valuable experience within the sport sector.
Whether you're interested in grants management, research, legal services or volunteering, our internships offer you the opportunity to learn more and apply your skills within the sport sector.
The programme runs for 12 weeks, starting in June and ending in August.
You're able to play a key role within your chosen department and gain an understanding of working life at Sport England.
Who can apply?
Our internships cover various areas of the organisation and are open to all students who have at least one year remaining to complete their degree. Whichever business area of Sport England you might be interested in, we have an opportunity for you.

You're able to choose from seven programmes across different areas, including:
- Core Markets
- Grants (x2 London and Loughborough)
- Local Delivery
You don't have to be sporty to work at Sport England either. We're keen to hear from all students, including non-sporty ones, that have the skills and appetite to work in the sport sector.
What you will be doing
You will be given a range of interesting and challenging tasks during the 12-week programme.
You might manage your own project, work with our research team on interpreting data or manage information related to one of our new funding programmes.
Our intern programme is a great benefit to us as an organisation. It helps us get some fresh thinking and different, younger perspectives
You will also have a vital role in putting together and carrying out a research project throughout the duration of the internship.
No two days will be the same. We're keen for you to take responsibility and work on interesting tasks you can really get your teeth into.
Support and guidance
You will be supported along the way by your line manager and our HR team. You'll be offered careers training and an opportunity to get out of the office and visit some of the projects we invest in.
You'll have the unique opportunity to gain practical experience that gives you a glimpse into how each team works together as we put our strategy into practice – and work towards an active nation.

Can I start later/earlier and finish later/earlier?
You can start later and finish later.The internship is for 12 weeks and we are flexible on finishing time (but this cannot exceed the 12 weeks).
I have exams at the time the interviews are held. Can I interview on a different date?
Yes. We will accommodate university commitments as much as we can, but cannot guarantee this.

When will I know that I have been selected for interview?
We aim to let all applicants know by 11 May. If you are not successful we will also write to you.
If I am selected for interview will Sport England pay for my travel?
Yes. You will need to keep your receipt/tickets and fill in a form – all payments will be made to your nominated bank account.
I have a holiday booked during the internship dates. Can I still go on this?
Yes. We encourage all interns to take holiday during the internship. You will receive holiday pay and can use this in agreement with your line manager.
