Places People Play – delivering a mass participation sporting legacy from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Places People Play inspire mark

Places People Play is a £155m initiative that is bringing inspiration and magic of a home Olympic Games and Paralympic Games into the heart of local communities

It is being delivered by Sport England in partnership with the British Olympic Association, the British Paralympic Association and with the support of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games.

We are transforming the places where people play sport, making the benefits of London 2012 visible in cities, towns and villages across the country through:

We are inspiring people to make sport happen at the local level, embedding the Olympic and Paralympic values in grassroots sport, through:

  • Sport Makers - recruiting, training and deploying 40,000 Sport Makers as the next generation of sports volunteers to organise and lead grassroots sporting activities.

  • Club Leaders - providing free business skills, training and support to those doing the day-to-day running of community sport. Through improving business skills, Club Leaders aims to create a robust, economically sustainable and enterprising club network.

We have created sporting opportunities and challenges that give everyone the chance to become part of the mass participation legacy, through:

  • Gold Challenge - An independent initiative that is motivating over 100,000 adults to test themselves in multiple Olympic and Paralympic sports, and in doing so raise millions of pounds for charity.

  • Sportivate - Providing opportunities for teenagers and young adults up to 25 years to receive six weeks of coaching in the sport of their choice and guiding them into regular participation.
