Sport England is today lending its support to National Men's Health Week, organised by the Men's Health Forum.

Men's Health Week 2010, which starts today and runs until 20 June 2010, aims to:

  • Encourage more men to become more active
  • Increase male participation in sport
  • Encourage sports stadiums and similar venues to deliver health services and health campaigns for men.

From relieving stress and anxiety to losing weight and reducing the risk of cancer, heart disease and diabetes, physical activity and playing sport has lots going for it. It’s fun too.

"For too many men, sport has become something they only watch on TV or a good intention that falls by the wayside faced with the competing pressures of work and family,” said Sport England’s Chair, Richard Lewis. “We at Sport England hope that Men's Health Week will inspire more men to turn those nagging thoughts about being more active into action - and rediscover the fun of sport."

Men's Health Week coincides with the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, and crosses over with National Bike Week.

If you’re a man wanting to start on the road to becoming more active, you can get fast, free and independent advice from the Men’s Health Forum. Visit the male health website for more information.
