Football pundit Steve Claridge and former Arsenal star Perry Groves were among the former professionals lending their support to the launch of a new national five-a-side programme to get men aged over 35 back into football.

Football Replay will get underway during the World Cup on Sunday 13th June 2010. It will give thousands of men the chance to swap their armchairs for the pitch in a relaxed atmosphere, with the opportunity to play at the same place, same time every week on small pitches.

The programme is backed by Sport England through the FA’s whole sport plan and will operate at 45 centres across the country. With the emphasis on fun, the programme will run every Sunday afternoon which hour-long sessions beginning at 2pm, 4pm and 6pm, open to individuals and groups.

“This is a great chance for men to rediscover their love of football, just at the age when some are considering hanging up their boots, said Sport England’s Chair, Richard Lewis. “Football Replay will open up new opportunities for men who want to take part in football in a fun and friendly environment.”
